COMMITMENT OF TIME

A Variety of programs are offered to the children and families; each has a different commitment of time for a volunteer. Free Arts expressive art programs help children build self-esteem, creativity and relationships while developing renewed trust towards adults. Volunteers are role models, creative guides and hope-givers to the children and families they touch.

Programs
Free Arts Days
These mini-art festivals are held at different residential care facilities typically on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. As a volunteer you will share time with children by working on art projects with them.

Children’s Events
Similar to a Free Arts Day, as a volunteer you will share four to five hours with children as they experience an off site art activity. Activities may include nature walks, museum tours, theatre, community events and special parties that take place on weekdays, weekends or evenings.

Edelman Children’s Court
This program operates Monday through Friday with two-hour sessions held each morning and afternoon based on the court’s calendar of operation. As a volunteer you will lead children in simple art projects while they wait for their court hearings.

Parents and Children Together with Art (PACT)
The PACT Program consists of predetermined art activities that are provided once a week for a period of eight weeks. The program typically is held on a weekend or in the evenings and requires approximately two hours of volunteer time each session. As a volunteer you will team with two or three others who work together with the same small group of at-risk families – adults and children – throughout the eight-week program. PACT volunteers receive special training to help families in crisis learn to communicate and bond using the creative arts as a vehicle.

Weekly Volunteers
The Weekly Program offers children an opportunity to develop healthy relationships with adults and experience an increase in their sense of self-worth. Programs can be arranged for weekdays, weekends or evenings and typically one to two hour sessions take place weekly for a total of twenty weeks. As a volunteer you will team with two or more others leading the same group of children through a select art activity. The Weekly Program offers volunteers the opportunity to develop ongoing projects in a special field of interest; activities may include creative writing, music, cooking, photography, and filmmaking. Special arrangements can be made for volunteers to work as a mentor, tutor or special friend to a single child in need.

Office
Short or long term assistance is highly valued at our office located in the Culver City area. Our office is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. As a volunteer you may help with mailings, phones, data base entry, research, and preparation of art projects. Special skills like graphics and public relations are especially needed. Internships are considered on an individual basis.

Fundraising
Individuals are needed for various committees and to work at special events. As a volunteer you can lend your expertise in planning, public relations, solicitation, and pre and post event execution.
